The history of Roskilde Airport

Roskilde Airport celebrated its 30th birthday on 1 April 2003. A lot of things have happened on the fields south of Roskilde since the beginning of 1973. The airport has not yet reached the forecast number of operations; still, an aircraft lands or takes off at Roskilde every five minutes every day, year round.

Most of the almost 100,000 operations per year are by light aircraft in connection with flight instruction and taxi or training flights. However, the dream of larger passenger aircraft using the runways at Roskilde as well still exists; it was decided last spring to start the EIA (environmental impact assessment) process. This could be the first step towards a future as an airport for low cost carriers, for example.
