Some tips on how to combat fear of flying
Understand that flying is safe – the safest form of transport known to man. Find out all you can about flying – information about planes, their interior, sounds and movements. Pinpoint the source of your greatest fear and find out all you can about this aspect of flying.

Make sure you are well rested and have eaten properly before you travel. The body burns sugar faster under stress.

Arrive at the airport in good time. If you are running late from the outset you risk becoming more stressed than necessary.

Ask for a seat at the front of the aircraft where the plane is most stable. If you suffer from vertigo then it is advisable to avoid a window seat.

Do not try to cover up your fear. Do not be afraid to tell cabin crew that you are scared of flying. Try to relax. Take a good book along with you or listen to some nice music. Focus on your breathing. Breathe slowly from the bottom of your stomach.

Avoid alcohol. Too much alcohol can increase your feeling of being out of control. Avoid drinking coffee. Large amounts of caffeine stimulate the body, causing it to react as if it were on adrenalin. Instead, drink plenty of water during the flight.
